Swimming pool tickets in your mobile - Bratislava

City / Region

Bratislava (Slovakia)

In a nutshell

Imagine that the air temperature reaches a tropical 35 degrees. The only thing that could help feel better is to dive into the water. Fortunately, you know Bratislava's swimming pools, you quickly pack everything you need and already imagine spending your time in the water and sunbathing. When you arrive at the swimming pool, you will see that your idea was not that original, since a 200m line of visitors in front of you, can't wait to buy a ticket, just like you.

This problem motivated our department of innovation and digital services, together with StaRZ (the city sport facilities administrator), to introduce a quick and easy way to buy online ticket for swimming pools. for the summer season 2021.

StaRZ tried to introduce a similar system back in 2020. However, it was not based on real needs of the users and was implemented very poorly by the external supplier. Since it was introduced in the middle of the season, users could not use the online ticket purchase to full extent. The goal of our cooperation was to launch the service ahead of time, a few weeks before the start of the season to give the visitors enough time to buy a completely new type of ticket - seasonal ticket.

What makes the service user-centric?
The 2021 summer season was specific also due to the pandemic situation, which was influential for residents of Bratislava, when choosing a vacation destination. According to a survey by the Go4insight agency, completed at the turn of May and June 2021, up to 43 percent of respondents planned to spend the summer vacation in Slovakia. More than a quarter admitted that they are worried about vacationing abroad.

That showed up on the number of attendants at Bratislava swimming pools, which was more than 247,000 in 2021 and more than 252,000 in 2022. The increasing attendance motivates us even more to ensure as pleasant an experience as possible for swimming pools visitors.
What impact has the service had?
15% share of total revenues
1411 pcs of 10-entries and seasonal tickets sold
18 009 pcs of online daily tickets sold
104 529 € total revenues from online tickets
For the 2021 summer season, we achieved more than 16,000 online tickets, which is more than 4 times of sold online tickets from the 2020 season. The established growing trend continued in the 2022 season as well, when we outperformed the number by 21% .
We incorporated a lot of collected suggestions into the 2022 edition of the service. Visitors got the opportunity to view season tickets in their created account (which was our first pilot project for Bratislava ID), where there had an overview of visits and the remaining number of entries on a season ticket available. In addition, they were able to add their loved ones to the profile and simply buy tickets for them as well.
We already collected a lot of amazing feedback from summer season 2022, which we can't wait to implement for an upcoming season 2023.
How was the service co-created?
In the summer of 2020, we conducted interviews with people who visit Bratislava swimming pools. We needed a better understanding of the problems they encountered and what forms of payment they prefer. Based on this, in 2021 we created a prototype - the design of the website and the process that can be clicked through and thus simulate the user's experience. We tested it at the beginning of the year with several residents to"catch the flies" prior to development. Thanks to that, we were able to implement any modifications in less time and lower financial costs.
Through direct feedback from swimming pools visitors, we were able to verify the functionality and fulfill the purpose of the service. They rate the site as clear and easy to use. They compliment us on the quick and easy purchase process, shorter waiting in line, possibility to leave the swimming pool and return again, or visit several swimming pools in one day.
Another benefit that users are pleased with is also a more favorable price for online tickets compared to tickets at the cashier's desk. We also perceive the success of online shopping through numbers of sold tickets and season tickets.
