E-democracy offers community access to policy choices and turns a citizen into the participant of the municipal decisions. And the way technology and democracy interact, shows how technology can support democracy to become more responsible.

The resource of electronic petitions is a strategically important component of the dynamics of a democratic state – one of the main tools for the development of digitalization. It helps systematize social problems and current issues that must be solved at an early date. Due to it citizens can submit worthy initiatives for consideration by the municipality. 

The importance of E-democracy is especially urgent and indicative in wartime, when the opportunity to express the opinion of your community is limited. However, due to E-democracy it became possible. While living in difficult conditions, people are able to exercise their will. In this way, the city authorities can always stay in touch with the citizens and hear everyone's opinion.

What makes the service user-centric?
The main purpose of such a project was to establish an effective dialogue between citizens and city authorities. It gives citizens a real opportunity to convey their initiatives to local authorities, express their thoughts, ideas, and unite with like-minded people. And the authorities can find out the needs of citizens online and fulfill priority tasks.

By providing citizens with online platforms for discussions and participatory tools of e-democracy such as polls and petitions, more people become involved in the decision-making process. This helps to build trust between citizens and their government, and ensure that decisions are more representative of the diverse interests and needs of the citizens.
What impact has the service had?
The E-petition service has significantly updated the Kyiv Digital application, which is increasingly oriented towards global standards of public communication. In the mobile application, users can view the petitions published on the website and detailed information about them, support the petition, and monitor the progress of the petitions signed. It is really simple, convenient, fast and reliable. Henceforward, it is only a few clicks away to see and experience E-democracy in action.

Among the most popular topics of electronic appeals are transport and infrastructure. It concerns the real life of people. Therefore, there is a high interest of citizens in the mechanism of submitting such petitions.
How was the service co-created?
E-democracy tools have emerged as a powerful means to enable citizens to have a voice in the democratic process, and the Kyiv Digital app is a prime example of this. Due to it the number and variety of people who exercise their democratic rights through comments sent to decision-making bodies increased.

After the service appeared in the Kyiv Digital application, more than 400 petitions were registered and more than 600,000 votes were given.
