CityLab 010 - Rotterdam

City / Region

Rotterdam (Netherlands)

In a nutshell

CityLab010 is a support programme with an annual budget of over 3 million euros for initiators who want realise their dreams for Rotterdam.

We offer you the chance to make their initiatives for the city come true. Our programme offers help in the form of knowledge, coaching and network: you can use the knowledge in the city for your initiative and start new collaborations. This makes CityLab010 the energy source for the city of tomorrow.

A jury consisting of twelve true 'Rotterdammers' with diverse knowledge and a big heart for the city can decide which initiatives will receive a start-up budget with a total of 3 million euros that the municipality makes available annually through CityLab010. The City Jury has the important task of assessing the submitted CityLab010 initiatives. With a jury report to the college of mayor and aldermen they advise who will receive a starting budget.

What makes the service user-centric?
The ideas of initiators are central in the solution that Citylab010 offers.
What impact has the service had?
Citylab010 has been an opportunity for people with great ideas for Rotterdam for many years now. Some 49 ideas in 2021 got the opportunity to become reality. The impact in the city of course depends on the specific ideas, but everywhere you look, you could be looking at something that was realised with the help of Citylab010. Just a few of the many ideas made real: the Airbridge (yellow bridge of reused wood connecting neighbourhoods that before were unconnected), a roof park with restaurant for local produce and a center for re-use of old sneakers.
How was the service co-created?
We offer a solution to ideas that might get stuck otherwise. The programme offers guidance for the ideas and initiatives. Besdie the financial support it helps with knowledge, coaching and network. After an idea has been selected by the jury the initiator is supported and he becomes part of the Citylab010 community. This also works for some of the promising initiatives / initiators that in the end didn't make the cut.
